POWER BOAT CLUB

DAY AT LAKE ARAPUNI

The Putaruru-Arapuni Yacht and Power Boat Club held its first club picnic on the shores of Lake Arapuni on Sunday, the weather being fine and conditions on the lake excellent.

Spectators were entertained with several speedboat races, a dinghy outboard race, a display of aquaplaning and a water ski exhibition was also attempted. Boats from Te Awamutu, Cambridge and Hamilton added to the interest of the occasion. An attraction which proved extremely popular was the speedboat trips around the lake given to the public by the boat-owners in return for a nominal donation to the local club.

Racing events resulted as follows: First V bottom handicap: Miss Conduct 1, Salome 2, Sea Breeze 3; second "V bottom handicap: Miss Conduct 1, Sea Breeze 2, Lynette 3; third V Bottom handicap: Lynette 1, Miss Conduct 2, Sea Breeze 3; outboard dinghy handicap: J. Cotter 1, W. Phillips 2, J. Nicol 3. The day was a great success and did much to further the aims of the club, the ultimate aim of which is to develop a portion of the lake shore, plant shade trees and erect bathing and other facilities. Provision, it was stated, had been made to hold annual regattas and the promotion of acquatic sports in every possible way. The local club believes that with a little development the Arapuni lake will become one of the finest water playgrounds in the province. The general opinion was that the club, which was only recently formed, had got off to an excellent start.
