PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE MEETING Telephone Lines Promised A discussion took place at the monthly meeting of the Tokoroa Progress League, on the question of the installation of an adequate telephone service in the district. A letter was received from the P. and T. Department stating that the delay had been solely due to nonavailability of poles, but that this handicap had now foec<n overcome, and it was anticipated that the construction of lines to prospective subscribers would be commenced about the end of this month. Roads It was decided to write to the Matamata County Council regarding the state of Logan street, with particular reference to the area immediately in front of the post office. Railway Crossings It was pointed out that the level crossing signs at the Utewera crossing and at Baird road were badly in need of attention, and the secretary was instructed to write to the Railways Department asking that the matter be looked into without delay, as in their present condition the signs gave insufficient warning of the existence of thei crossings. Built-up Area Reference was 1 made to increasing danger to pedestrians, particularly children, consequent upon the expansion of population in the district and the large volume of traffic now using the main read. On tha motion of the chairman (Mr. E. J. Nuttall) it was decided to write to the Matamata County Council asking whether it was possible to have Tokoroa declared a built-up airaa, and a 30 m.p.h. speed limit imposed.
