TOKOROA STORE
TITLE HELD UP Now Approved With Plan The difficulty of obtaining a title to land at Tokoroa while the urban plan was still being discussed was stressed to the Matamata County Council by a deputation which waited on the council on Thursday. The deputation consisted of Messrs. Morcom and' Dunlop. Mr. Morcom stated that as a result of a canvass of the district sufficient capital had been secured to start the store. An endeavour had -been made to buy out an existing store, but had failed. The promoters then endeavoured to buy a section, but the only one available was that they obtained on the main road. This was obtained in December, 1945, and the store was opened. However, in the meantime the urban plan had -been mooted and they had not been able to get a title to the section 'because the council had not approved the subdivision. The engineer explained that he had had to close down on all three grocery stores at Tokoroa. The other two were on the side of the main highway on which the road was to be widened, and because of this 1 the building line had 'been set back two chains so that the stores would face inwards to another road. Mr. Dunlop remarked that the cooperative store would shift as soon as another site became available. In the meantime the business had grown to such an extent that they desired to add to the store. This could not be done until the title was lodged with the bank. Tile chairman assured the deputation that the council fully appreciated the difficulty of the deputation and would do all it could to assist, but it had to be realised that in such a change as an urban plan entailed someone was almost bound to be hurt. Later in the meeting, when the council had provisionally approved the urban plan, it was agreed that the subdivision be approved.
