RABBIT NUISANCE.
UNCONTROLLED AREAS. .g ” Drastic Action Urged. The utter futility of endeavouring "to . stamp out the rabbit nuisance -while infested property alongside was allowed to remain untouched, was pointed out by the secretary of the Peria Rabbit Board, Mr. F. Banks, at a largely-attended meeting of ratepayers held at Matamata on Monday. Mr. C. G. Payze presided. Mr. Banks said that while rabbits < were allowed to breed unchecked on ..... property just over the boundary of rabbit boards, the task of those boards was an impossible one. Complaints were being continually received from ratepayers that rabbits were coming on their property from infested areas over which there was no jurisdiction. He thought it was time that some drastic move was made to deal with the situation. These remarks were strongly supported by Messrs. F. C. Bush, H. Rollett and other speakers, and with little further discussion the following motion was carried unanimously: “ That all rabbit infested country, including Crown areas, should be placed immediately under the control of rabbit boards.” It was decided to forward the resolution to the Minister of Agriculture and a copy to Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P.
