MOTOR CAMPING.
DEVELOPMENT OF “MOTELS.” Following the remarkable growth of motor camps in America, of which there are about 5000, a recent de- | velopment has been the motor inn. These are also spoken of a “ motels ” or motor hotels. They are primarily for the comfort and accommodation of touring motorists. Instead of being operated by the municipality, they have been established by private enterprise. So far they have been placed in the suburbs of the larger cities. Occupying about five acres, there are more conveniences than are available in the ordinary camp for motorists. They are mainly patronised by those who do not desire to load up their cars with sleeping and cooking equipment. Around a central community dining room and kitchen are grouped a number of bungalows with hot and cold water laid on and heating facilities. A number of the cottages have shower baths, and towels and blankets are supplied. A free private garage is also provided for each car. The charges, with use of kitchen, range from 6s to 8s a night for two persons. In California, a | chain of these inns, in well-laid-out grounds, has been opened.
