A NEW TYPE OF HOOD.
ON ROLLER TOP PRINCIPLE. It is surprising that no coachbuilder or motor-body designer seems to have exploited the possibilities of a hood on the “ roller-top-desk ” principle. What could be easier than to store the hood, rolled up, behind the seat, and run it, when required, over a parallel track of metal reaching to the front screen? This frame could have a rubber beading against which the windows, when raised, could abut, and would scarcely be noticed when the’ car was used as an open vehicle. The hood -could be raised by a small motor housed inside the roller, which would push the blinds up the rails, or a mechanical winder could be incorporated. Alternatively the hood could be drawn up by means of wires concealed in the channels. If more open touring cars could be provided with really easily operated hoods, there is no doubt that the open automobile could retain its popularity much longer. **
