VALEDICTORY.
mrs. m. McDermott. A happy little event occurred last week, when the, ladies of the Putaruru Golf and Tennis Clubs entertained one of their most popular members, in the person of Mrs. Martin McDermott, to afternoon tea on the tennis courts. Mrs. McDermott, who with her husband had recently left Putaruru to settle in Te Awamutu, has been a member of both clubs since their inception, and, to , show their esteem for her, members of the club presented her with a sum of monej to obtain a memento of her sojourn in Putaruru. In making the presentation Mrs. Ray Brown referred in glowing terms to the popularity and sportsmanship of their guest, and hoped that she would make as many friends in her new home as she had done in Putaruru. After all, Te Awamutu was not so far away, and she hoped they would be able to see much of Mrs. McDermott still. (Applause.) In a neat little speech Mrs. McDermott thanked them all for their pleasant surprise. She felt that she was not going away and hoped to be over for the opening day of tKe Golf Club. (Applause.) Musical honours were then accorded and the usual afternoon programme was gone on with.
