We have the most rejSable authority for stating that the Government have decided to allocate £13,000, out of the £50,000 voted last session for roading unsold Crown lands, for the purpose of making a road, which will run parallel with the Pti|ntois on the eastern side from Alfiedton to Dane virke. It is said this road will open some 90,000 acres of land for settlement, and that it is to be surveyed and cut up within the next eighteen months. The first party of surveyors, indeed, are now on their way to the block, and will commence the work at cnce. The road through the Makuri, on towards the Hast Coast to Aolianga, is also to be proceeded with during the next few days. It is said that the men at prfcsent engaged on the Makairo relief works are to be shifted to the .Makuri tins week, and other men who are Juahle to find employment, and Seek it at the hands of the Government will also be sent to the Makuri works.
AN EXCISE
Since our last issue, the whole of our staff, excepting two, have been prostrated by influenza. Among those of us who have had to givo in to the epidemic are all our runner-boys, and as this will inevitably lead to some irregularities in regaed to the delivery of papers to subscrilibrs, we desire to make our apology for the inconvenience and annoyance thus caused.
