Heavy rain bas been falling in all the country districts around and about for twelve hours. It was urgently wauled for the crops. Dumtonv, Nov. 28. The Chamber of Commerce have called a mooting for to-morrow to discuss with tlie Minister of Public Works the question of being rep.esented at the Chicago exhibition. Ciir.MTCH. bi n, November 23. influenza is spreading in the city and suburb*, but it appears to be of a mild i vpe. No fatalities are reported. The criminal sitting of the Supreme Conrt opened this morning before Mr Justice ib-miuton. whose charge was very brief. He only said that, though the calender was large in number, there were uo case# of importance calling for a(>ecial remarks. Federick Davies, for the l forgery of two cheques while acting as secretary of the school committee, pleaded godly, and was sentenced to twelve months' imprisonment on each charge. A man named Charles Ingram, aged (4, died suddenly this afternoon. He complained of pains in tho chest duriug the day, and the pains becoming excessive, a doctor was sent for, but tho man died before the doctor arrived. An inquest will be held. Taurakua, Nov. 23. A woman named Jones, who bas been missing since Thursday, was found dead at the bottom of the Eighth Avenue embankment with her neck broken. She hail fallen over the cliff. Hawjcra, Nov. 28. The Egmont Fat mere' Union have declared a dividend of 8 per cent, the maximum allowed under the articles of association. New Plymouth, Nov. 23. The Chief Surveyor having been ordered to make a report on the sand accumulations in the New Plymouth n&rbor, says there has been a decrease of 78,000 yards of sand since the last survey was made fourteen months since.
