MINING NOTES.
Although matters in the mining line have been quiet of late in the Wakamarina, considerable development work has been carried out by the Deep Creek Goldmining Syndicate during the past three or four months. The 10-stamper battery, tram-lines, water races, etc., are now nearing completion. Within two or three weeks the welcome sound of the new battery in full action may bo heard in the valley. The new pelton wheel has been connected up with the water power from Pennyweight Creek, and arrangements for the quick handling of the ore from the various outcrops on the “Smile of Fortune’’ side of the valley will shortly be complete. Mr G. Humphries, who has had control of this work, is to be congratulated upon the excellent progress made, and particularly to the substantial and permanent nature of the battery structure, which has been built on up-to-date lines and equipped with the latest .laboursaving devices. The prospects here seem very promising.
Since the holidays work at Mountain Camp has been conh'ned principally to further prospecting the property. Further developments are held up pending the flotation of the new company. As there is a fair amount of rich stone on hand ready for treatment, the procuring. o> some sort of crushing plant will be one of the first things the new company will have to consider. The prospects here are also very hopeful.
