HAVELOCK-OKARAMIO TELEPHONE.
A BLANK REFUSAL. The following letter has been received by the Secretary of the Pelorus Road Board;— “In reference to your letter of 6th ultimo., transmitting a petition for the establishing of telephonic communication between Havelock and Okaramio, and to your further letter of the 14th insfc., I regret to inform you that I am unable to recommend the erection of the desired line, as the revenue would not warrant the large expenditure involved. As Okaramio is already connected by telephone with Blenheim I do not see there can be any great need for direct communication with Havelock, etc. W. 0. Meddinos, Acting-Superintendent of Eleotrio Linos." As it is not at all likely tlfat the Road Board and Town Board will regard this extraordinary letter as the last word upon this important subject we will reserve criticism of it until it has been officially dealt with.
