Sydney, January 21. With a view to finally settling the question of supremacy between Major Taylor and Don Walker, the League of Wheelmen has arranged to run a series of three and onemile heats. A prize of fioo is offered. To make the tests thoroughly representative, the League has invited nine of the best Australian riders, including Chalmers, to ride in ’the qualifying heats on Monday’ The winner of the final is to meet Walker on Wednesday night, and the one proving victorious is to race Taylor for the championship. January 22. At the Cycling Carnival last night the match between Gudgeon and Walker, to decide who should meet Major Taylor, resulted in a win for Gudgeon. Gudgeon, however, had no chance against Taylor, who beat him comfortably in both the mile paced and the mile unpaced events. Taylor displayed magnificent form.
