Murder by Burglars.

Sydney, January 21. A publican at Auburn was aroused early this morning by groans in the bar. He found the door open, and Constable Long lying on the floor, shot with a wound in the back of his head. He died en mite to the hospital There are indications that Long surprised burglars, and was shot while investigating. The landlord was awakened on hearing a shot and rushed to the bar door, which was locked. He heard a couple of men escape by the front and get away in a buggy, which was waiting. They secured only a few coppers and a quantity of cigarettes. Long held a revolver and a partially burned match in his hands. Evidently the burglars were waiting and shot him immediately he passed the door. An attempt was made to burgle the hotel a fortnight ago, and Long undertook to keep a. sharp watch
