VITRIOL-THROWING CASE. Auckland, March 17. At the criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, in the case of Carroll, alleged to have thrown acid at another man at Paeroa, the jury were locked up at 12-30 p.m., and was brought into Court at intervals up to 9-30 p.m., but the foreman of the jury told his Honour there was no prospect of the jury agreeing. SUCCESSFUL COMPANY. Wellington, March 17. The directors of the Manawatu Railway Company has decided to recommend the payment of a dividend of six per cent for the year. THE INCOME TAX. Wellington, March 17. The Wellington Industrial Association has decided to ask other kindred Associations to join in representations to the Income Tax Department that more should be deducted from machinery for depreciation. It was pointed out that the allowance made at present is much smaller than what is commonly written oft working machinery.
