MANSLAUGHTER. Wellington, June 19. Four young men have been arrested on a charge of causing the death of a woman named Louie Smith. They forced their way into a Chinaman’s house where the woman was living, and in the straggle a 1 imp was upset, the burning oil setting fire to S i it i’s clothes, causing injuries- from which she died. TIMBER EXPERT. Wellington, June 19, The agreement with Mr Freyberg, the London timber expert, expires in August, and it is not considered likely that it will be renewed. OBEDIENCE. Dunedin, June 19. At the close of his sermon, on Sunday night, when he denounced gambling, the Rev. R. Waddell, of St. Andrew’s Church, called upon everyone willing to make a solemn promise never to make a bet or visit a racecourse to stand up, when the whole of the congregation, with two or three exceptions, stood up. SERIOUS CHARGE. Dunedin, June 19. At the Magistrate’s Court at Milton today Alan Boyd, of Taieri, who was' driving with his shepherd on May 24th, when the latter met with an accident resulting in his death, was fined £2 and costs for being drunk while in charge of a vehicle on the main road.
