Regatta and Sports.
A general meeting in connection with the above was held at the Commercial Hotel on Tuesday eveninglast, December 10. Present: Messrs 0; H. Mills, M.H.R. (in the chair), J. H. Reynolds, W. T. Frskine, W. Orsman, James Brownlee, R. Forrest, W. Reader, J. Davies, H. Smith, W. Dorreen, Miles, and Clark. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. After some discussion as,, to the advisability of holding a regatta the previous proposal was withdrawn, and it was proposed by Mr Dorreen, seconded by Mr Smith, That a regatta be held at Havelock, on Monday, December 29.
It was resolved, That a dance be held on the night of December 29 and New Year's Night. Proposed by Mr Reynold?, seconded by Mr Orsman, That the regatta programme be re-instated, with necessary alterations.
Resolved, That nominations for the First and Second-class Sailing races be sent in by Saturday, December 27. That tenders for booths and games as advertised, be in not later than Saturday, December 27. That winners of First-class Race be not allowed to compete in Second-class race. The Secretary was instructed to write to the 'Chairman Town Board, asking permission for erection of booths on the wharf, also to block entrance to wharf on day of regattaProposed by Mr James Brownlee, seconded by Mr Miles, That the Atheneum Theatre be engaged for Monday night, December 29, instead of Boxing Night. The meeting then adjourned.
