THE PELORUS GUARDIAN FRIDAY, DECEMBER, 19, 1890. The Political Situation.
The news from Wellington regarding the actions of the Government and what is the actual result of the Cabinet deliberations is very puzzling. First we are told that Parliament will be called together on the 15th of January, and a Gazette extraordinary is about to be issued to that effect, then this is contradicted, and it is stated Parliament is not going to be called together so early; also that the Government claim a majority, and will fight the matter out. All this leads us to believe there is something crooked going on behind the scenes of a similar character to that which some years ago produced four Auckland "rats." However, we will wait further developments before discussing the matter at any length, though we cannot help feeling disgusted with the proceedings so far as they have gone.
