Condemned before Trial.

Scarcely had the result of the elections become known than the Ministerial organs commenced to write condemnatory articles on those elected on the Opposition side, and on the electors for not having more sense than to have returned thorn, and predicting all sorts of evils likely to be the outcome of placing the power in the hands of the masses instead of a select few. Wo think some of our contemporaries are rather premature jn their remarks, and it would have been more generous on their part to have given the new npp a trial before condemning them outright, Wo inclined to think that them have boon some very intelligent men elected in the new Parliament, but supposing they were the greatest noodles it was possible to conceive, they con'd not make a more wretched mess of the governinqnfc of the country than thoia

mighty men who are held up to our view as model statesmen, and who have bad complete charge of the country since the Constitution Act came into force. If it had not been for the gold discoveries, backed up by a fertile soil and beautiful climate, the country would have been bankrupt long ago, as it is we only escaped with a hair’s breadth that unenviable position through the gross mismanagement of these mucin-lauded men. We say it is only fair to let the other side have an innings, and give them a fair field and no favour and we are confident they cannot do worse, but the chances are they will do better than their predecessors.
