Political. [By Telegraph,] (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, December 15. The Cabinet met tin’s morning to further discuss the position of matters. Although it is not said in so many words it is pretty conclusive that the result of the meeting was that it should be proposed to the Governor to call Parliament together on the loth January. The Premier communicated in person the result of deliberations to the Governor, who had not given an answer up to mid-day. It is almost certain, however, that Parliament will be called together for that day. It is not likely that any very long adjournment of the House will be agreed to after the new Government has been formed, as it is not considered that a long interval is necessaiy to enable the new Government to bring down a poliev. It is rumoured that in the event of the Government resigning Sir Harry Atki.ison will retire from the leadership of his party, and Captain Russell is mentioned as his probable successor. The reason for this is that the Premier’s health will not allaw him to maintain a fight in the House.
