The "Sydney papers contain warnings against; an ill-considered rush to the Peak Hill diggings, concerning which we have had a good deal in the cable •messages lately. The Dubbo correspondent ot the Sydney Daily Telegraph •writing on September 18th, says:— •"Just returned from Peak Hill. Therw •are over 2,000 people on the field, but :nothing at all to warrant the exaggerated reports which have appeared in a section of the Press. Certainly the field has 7 feet of rich-looking washdirt, and a depth of 130 feet, but this is the only •claim bo far which has struck payable gold in deep-sinking. I would strongly advise anyone intending to visit Peak Hill to wait two or three weeks, when some adjoining claimß which are now down from 48 feet will prove the field. If two or three shafts are as successful as the present prospectors' claim, there will be a great rush there. Last week several coach loads of miners, both via Dubbo and Molong, arrived at the Peak. The crowds who throng the streets at night time remind one of.the palmy days of Geelong." The Government Warden at Peak Hill also telegraphed to the Minister of Mines to the following effect:—" Please warn the public that there are sufficient miners here to man five miles of lead, and there is only one shaft on gold on the beep ground. Plenty of men can be obtained for £2 10s per week."
