Mail Services.
Some few months ago the Union Steam Shipping Company saw fit to alter the date of their steamer running from Wellington with the mails, and consequently it interfered with all the postal arrangements throughout Marlborough more or less, and in outlying districts considerably with business. However, ■ our obliging Chief Postmaster, at considerable personal trouble, worked out a new scale for arrival and departure of country mails, and made the necessary alterations to fit in as well a 3 possible, but there seems no finality yet about the arrival of our mails from Wellington. Now, who is to blame ? Have the Union Company the intercolonial mail contract, and can they alter the, day for delivery without the sanction of our Postal authorities, or why should it go wrong after all these years of good service ? We may point out that so far as this district was concerned no improvement could have-been made on the old service, viz., steamers passing each other at on their route to and from Wellington on Thursday, as it enabled passengers to take direct advantage of the through mail service, and we hope to hear at the next change of running that day will be resumed.
