The Wonderful Virtues of the Australian Gum Tree. When the a'chomist of past ages were endeavouring to discover tbe Elixir of Life, they made some very valu l<le but simple dis overies in the science of chemistry, and for many centuries the results of their researches were used by hermits and others who professed a knowledge of medicine. Of late years the rapid development of this science has been so gre t, and the study of botany in new found countries has been practised to such an extent, th t the old world ideas have passed away. The present enlightened age require something more than the simple discoveries of these enthusiasts; this was to a certain extent achieved when the curative property of the Australian gum tree were first made known to an expectant world Since the first discove ies of these medicinal virtues many eminent men have made experiments from the tree, which has been planted in many parts of the globe, as apeventative of malaria and o f ;her fevers. Notwithstanding the many efforts 10 obtain the greatest virtues .vith the least impurities, is ws not 'ill Leon Pettit, an imminent French analytical chemist, after, many years of unceasing toil, was able to produce the active medicinal principles in thf purest nd \ best form of this wonderful tree by a process only known to himself, which he introduced to the public in 1860,, and called it Pewit's Eucalypti Balsam. This valuable preparati n is free from all resinous and irritating substances, being unlike all other compounds, so-called extracts, &c. Ac. It may be given .to children with the greatest safety It is unequalled for coughs, colds, influenza asthma, whooping coughs, bronchitis, and al other chest and lung affections.
