The Evening Post assures it readers that the position of the Ministry will be challenged by Mr Ballanee, • as leader of the Opposition. It is not certain, however, whether a hostile vote will be moved on the Address in Eeply, or a direct vote of want-of-ooufidence will be moved immediately afterwards. While we are not at all one with the present Ministry we do not see that such a step will be at all beneficial to the country, seeing that we shall soon have a new Parliament with a reduced number of members. The position of members may be entirely changed at the general elections soon to take place, and the best course to adopt now would be to pass only such necessary measures as are at present demanded by the country, and leave the matter of a new ministry, and a new policy to a new Parliament.

The Governor's speech, a portion of which will be found elsewhere, is rather longer than usual, but practically void of interest so far as it reflects the policy of the Government.
