HOSPITAL OPERATION “A VERY SICK MAN” (Reed. July 1, 10.30 a.m.) NEW YORK, June 30. The former heavyweight boxing champion, Jack Dempsey, is suffering from peritonitis following the .rdmovai of a gangerous appendix in •hospital. It was at first reported that Dempsey lhad spent >a fair night and was resting compoitabiy. Later, however, it was stated that ithe hospital superintendent had lannounced: “Dempsey (is ia very sick iman."
