RUSSIAN SHEEPDOG'S TRIP

LONDON-AUCKLAND REUNION WITH OWNER (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. A Russian sheepdog named Peter arrived by the steamer Akaroa today, completing a 10,000 mile sea voyage that started at Southampton on .March 17 and finished in the arms of his mistress, Miss Marianne I. Nemhauser on the forward deck or the vessel to-day.

Of most aristocratic lineage, Peter left London with a ticket attached to his collar and two cwt. of the best dog biscuits. His passage cost £ls. His mistress, who was formerly of Vienna, left Austria for England, nearly a year ago and arranged for Peter to follow her. He made the journey by air but on arrival in England was placed in quarantine. Before the period of nine months elapsed, Miss Nemhauser came to reside in Auckland.

Those who expected the Russian sheepdog to be a huge and dangerous fellow, were surprised when they saw Peter, the quaintest little fellow surrounded by a coat of fine, long greyish hair, eyebrows and sidewhiskers through which there shipe two brown shoebutton eyes. He is about the size of an ordinary fox terrier, though much shorter in the legs.

The ship's- butcher, Mr. A. Divil, said that Peter was really good and stood up to the voyage well. The dog was a general favourite, lovable and friendly. When Miss Nemhauser went aboard to-day, Peter went crazy with delight and then nestled adoring in his mistress' arms.
