NEW FACTORIES
INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION NEW PLANT INSTALLED REPLACING IMPORTS SURVEY BY MINISTER (Fer Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Expansion in industrial activity throughout the Dominion continues to be manifest in many manufacturing concerns, and many new units are being established, stated the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, to-day. "In Auckland a number of new clothing establishments have been opened and activity is reflected in the extremely busy conditions in the woollen mills," said Mr. Sullivan. "A great deal of extra machinery has been .installed and more is on order. A Wellington firm has installed .three more machines which are being put into full production upon interlock material. The production of knitted piece goods is rapidly expanding."
Other activities mentioned are in connection with aluminium utensils, collapsible tubes for toothpaste, the production of children's tricycles, scooters ( packet nails, and sporting equipment. An overseas firm had established a factory in Wellington with 'key men brought over from Australia.
Another firm was. about to commence the manufacture of rackets and hockey sticks. At least three concerns in Auckland, Nelson and Chrisachurch were about to commence the manufacture of colloidal sulphur. ■Dunedin activities included panels and doors for certain types of furniture, and certain lines of spices and patent foodstuffs previously all imported.
