HUNT SEASON OPENS
MEETING AT AWAPUNI SCENT CONDITIONS POOR FOLLOWERS IN NUMBERS Conditions were dry, hard, and uncomfortable for the followers of hounds who met on Saturday at Awapuni to open the 1939 hunting season. There was a large attendance of hunting enthusiasts, however, and though scenting conditions were almost impossible, one kill was made in the course of .the afternoon.
No improvement in conditions for hunting can be looked for until there is a substantial fall of rain, but it is 'hoped that this will not long be delayed.
Farmers whose land was hunted over on Saturday were ■thanked by the master, Mr. H. H. Dods, who also extended a welcome to followers, to the public, and to new members of the hunt who were out for the first time. Tea was served at the end of the afternoon’s sport, and the huntsman congratulated on the condition of the pack.
