CONSTABLE BATTERED

STRUCK BY PROWLER INCIDENT NEAR HOSPITAL (I'm- Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Suffering from concussion, Constable D. G. Kilgour, was sent to hospital early this morning as a result of injuries he received in a struggle with a prowler in the grounds of St. Helens Hospital. Hearing moans, the nursing sister on duty shortly before 3 o’clock found the constable in a semi-conscious condition crawling on his hands and knees. Little is known of what actually happened, but the constable remembers accosting a man near the nurses’ sleeping quarters and that during the struggle lie was struck a heavy blow on the head. liis assailant escaped. Regaining consciousness, the constable was unable to walk and was crawling towards tthe hospital when lie was found. He has a lump on his head. The hospital reports that his condition is fairly serious.
