SCHOOL BEAT ROVERS WAIROA CRICKET SERIES MARGIN OF RUNS (Special (o tlm Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A surprise victory by 33 runs on the first innings was gained by High School when they met Rovers, winners of the Wairoa Cricket Association’s Hopper Shield competition, in the knock-out competition on Saturday. Having first use of the wicket, Rovers, in their first innings, realised 176 runs, Aldridge top-scoring with 57. Nightingale, 35, and Marshall, 37, also performed well. Bowling l'or High School, Bilbrough and I. Pilkington secured three wickets apiece for 22 and 19 runs respectively. A first-wicket stand, however, by Frice, 56, and Cook, 38, relieved matters considerably, the final wicket falling with 209 runs on the board. Bowling for Rovers, Marshall captured three wickets for 39 runs and Rowe and Aldridge secured two wickets each for 41 and 19 runs respectively.
