J. Macdonald, J. B. Broadhurst, 11. J. F. Tomibleson, R. D. Dvmock, M. Doyle, R. Murray, W. IL Clark, C. 11. Williams. W. T. Veitch, and M. T. FrafTord. Leave of absence was , granted to Messrs. T. Corson, J. E. Benson, and W. G. Sherratt. The Auckland provincial committee of the Centennial Exhibition forwnrd- ‘ ed a request for a donation, to the costs of arranging the provincial court. The sum of £250 was suggested as a suitable donation from the Gisborne Harbour Board. Tire chairman stated that the late . chairman. Mr. John Tombleson, had officially declined to commit the board to any contribution to .the Auckland provincial court, on the ground that it would be drawn from the same ratepayers as the contributions of Cither local bodies. Mr. Macdonald moved that the letter be received, the motion being seconded by Mr. Quigley and carried unanimously. The hoard renewed last ■ year’s donation of £5 5s to the St. John Ambulance Association, the chairman pointing out that the society’s general work .was extremely valuable, and that direct service was also given to ..he board.

Works Committee’s Report , The works committee recommended the acceptance of the Gisborne Borough Council’s offer to carry out bitumen work near the waterside workers’ waiting room, at a cost ot £3(> 15s. The installation of water troughs in the K-aiti sections used as stock-holding paddocks and spare equipment for the dredge A.C. also were referred to in the report. In connection with the last-named item, the chairman stated that the sheaves in the jibs of the dredge were showing definite signs ol wear, and spares were needed for maintenance, the report was adopted, and effect vven to the recommendations, j The chairman reported on the re- | cent overhaul of the launch Takitimu, stating that at the instance of the Government inspector of machinery, the engine of the launch had been dismantled for the first time. Consequently the overhaul had taken longer than was expected, some difficulty being experienced in securing replacements for portions of the equipment which had shown deterioration. The launch was back in commission again, and in very good order Mr. Nicol added. The board would have to make provision at some date not, too far distant for the replacement of the complete power unit in the launch, which had been doing exceptionally heavy work for several years. The hull had stood up welt to the heavy demands made by the board, and was in excellent condition, the recent inspection had revealed. Work of Dredge A.C. The acting-secretary-manager, Mr. R. R. Baldrey, reported that during the four weeks ended on March 21, the dredge A.C. lifted and deposited in the roadstead 29 loads of spoil, the total weight being 11,320 tons. Delays due to bad weather, shipping demands, and overhaul of equipment, and also to the employment ol the dredge for transport purposes, totalled over 30 hours for the month. The foreman and his staff had prepared all timber and iron-work necessary for repairs to the wave-trap seawait, and work on the repairs was commenced on March 20, good progress being made. Work would bo continued as opportunity offered, during good weather. The report was adopted.
