WAIKANAE SURF RACES

COMPETITION ENDS TIE FOR THE CUP The surf races conducted by the Gisborne Amateur Surf and Swimming Club at 'the Waikanae Beach during the swimming season were finished yesterday and the competition resulted in a tie. D. Lange and S. M. Thompson both secured 3.1 points and they will hold the A. H. DeCosta Cup jointly. The concluding event was staged during the week-end, when 10 swimmers contested the race, the winner being J. Seton, with R. McLatchie second and D. Lange third. There was a good surf running at the time and the race was held over a course of ab'out 250yds. Twelve races were conducted during the season and the summary of points for the competition was as follows: D. Lange and S. M. Thompson, 33 points; K. Morse, 23 points, D. Caldwell, 21 points: R. Read, 17 points; A. Banfield. 10 points: T. Fairweather, 15 points; J. Seton, T. Wauchop and R. McLatchie, 11 points; J. Stokes, 7 points; R. Taylor and D. Singe, 0 points; ,N. Tolerton D. Robinson, 5 points; C. Ward, a points.
