_ -♦- GISBORNE WEIGHTS SOME HEAVY LITTERS Some heavy litters have been weighed in the Gisborne district recently, and weights in two cases have exceeded an average of 401 b. per pig. Te Arai Pig Club, for which Mr. J. Buckley is the custodian, has a Tamworth sow with a litter of nine, and on the recent weighing at eight weeks averaged 46.81 b. per pig, the total weight bein2 4211 b, The weight at three weeks was 1091 b., an average of 12.11 b. There were six males and three females, the individual weights being:—Males, 481 b., 401 b., 521 b., 531 b., 501 b„ 421 b.; females, 471 b., 461 b., 431 b. Mr. G. Brown, Puha, with a litter of eight Tamworths, secured a total weight of 3341 b., an average of 41.75 lb. The three weeks' weight was 981 b., an average of 12.251 b. There were three males and five females, the individual weights being:—Males,'" 471 b., 391 b., 461 b.; females, 431 b.. 491 b., 471 b., 441 b., 291 b. The Ormond Pig Club's Berkshire sow reared a litter of 12, the sexes being evenly divided. The average weight was not so great as in the other two cases, but for such a large litter the young pigs did very well, being very even in weight and of nice quality. At three weeks they totalled 1391b.,' an average of 11.0fb., and at eight weeks the weight was 3671 b., an average of 30.61 b. The individual weights were:—Males, 321 b., 341 b., 331 b., 301 b., 361 b., 321 b.; females, 321 b., 251 b., 281 b., 321 b., 231 b., 301 b. These weighings were- carried out. under the supervision of Mr. F. 1?. Bould, inspector of stock, in his capacity as recording officer for the Gisborne district.
