EXULTANT BERLIN CROWDS WAIT IN RAIN STATELY PROCESSION GUARD OF ARMED POLICE TROOPS LINK ROUTE (Klec. Tel. Copyright-—-United I'ress Assn.) (Reed. March 20. 1 p.m.) LONDON, March 19. 'Messages from Berlin state that 150 cars constituted the procession to mark the triumphal return of Herr Hitler from Vienna. Two cars packed with armed police immediately followed the Fuehrer with men watching from fhe running boards. Herr Hitler stood up in his car. saluting the vociferous crowds estimated to number 1,000.000. Herr Hitler later appeared on a balcony and was wildly cheered. He three times reappeared at five-minute intervals, walking backwards and forwards with the German Foreign Minister, Herr Von Ribbentrop, the Air Minister, Marshal Goering, and others. Loud-speakers then ordered the crowds to return to their homes, declaring that Herr Hitler had urgent conversations pending and would not reappear. On his arrival from Vienna, Herr Hitler stepped from his train at the lavishly-decorated Goerlitzer .station where a galaxy of Ministers, diplomats, officials and officers assembled. Trumpet pea'ls marked the descent of Herr Hitler frbtn his carriage. General Goering, welcoming {he Fuehrer, triumphantly rehearsed Herr Hitler's exploits. A band played an anthem and guns boomed a salute, after which thousands witnessed the slow drive of 3J-miles to the accompaniment of church bells, band musk; and the illumination of arc lights and fireworks. Behind troops lining the route Berlin people lsLoocl four deep in the driving sleet and bitter wind. Black Guards had distributed gratis paper flags which the rain .speedily reduced to pulp. Herr Hitler reached the Chancellery at 8.12 p.m.
