TWELFTH CONVICTION PROCURING OF LIQUOR Stated by the prosecutor to have a formidable list of convictions for similar offences, a native, Whare Carroll, was charged before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., to-day in the Magistrate's Court with procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. A fine of £7 was inflicted. Senior-Sergeant J. F. H. Macnamara, who prosecuted, said that on March 16 Constable fredye 'had seen Carroll and another man go into a right-of-way in Gladstone road and, on following them, had found that Carroll had smelt of liquor. Carroll had declined to allow the constable to search him to see if he was in possession of liquor. "The accused has a terrible list, having 12 convictions arising out of breaches of the current order," commented the senior-sergeant, who addeci that the accused procured liquor practically every day frpm his friends and was hard to catch. For the defendant, Mr. T. Wauchop said that his client was a well-known native. His trouble was that his friends procured liquor for him, although at the time of the offence lie had no liquor on his person. The defendant was fined £7.
