Boats for Waipaoa
Representative oarsmen taking part in the shield regatta on the Waipaoa to-day were busy this morning transporting their craft to the river. Napier crews taking pa'rt in the regatta brought their craft from Hawke’s Bay with them. The majority of the visitors for the regatta arrived in Gisborne last evening. A Fortunate Escape ,A fortunate escape from an accident arising out of unusual circumstances was “experienced by a Gisborne motorist while travelling between Opotiki and Gisborne. While the motorist was traversing a metal section of tire road shortly after leaving Opotiki a large stone thrown up by an advancing car struck the windscreen. Fortunately, the missile struck the windscreen exactly outside a paper sticker attached to the screen, with the result that the break was a clear one and the glass did not splinter. Had it done so, the risk of facial injury to the driver of the car would have been serious.
