RACING COMMISSION
DATE OF APPOINTMENT STATEMENT BY MINISTER As soon as the busy period of racing in New Zealand has passed, a Racing Commission will be appointed to investigate the condition of racing in the Dominion and the distribution of permits. This announcement made this week by the Hon. W. E Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs. “The appointment of the Racing Commission is dependent on the circumstances, and until the busy period for racing is over the commission will not be appointed,” said Mr. Parry. The announcement that a commission was to be appointed was made some months ago. When questioned, Mr. Parry could give no details as to the personnel of the commission. ‘“lt is good for racing and it is good for the country to know that everything is all right,” said Mr. Parry, supporting the proposal to set up a commission. “If any improvement can be made or suggested for the benefit of the sport and the public generally, then It is time for legislation.”
