ULTIMATUM DENIED DIET TO ASSEMBLE (Reed. March 18, 10 a.m.) KAUNAS, March 17. The Diet has been summoned for March 25. It is expected to pass a blanket law conferring plenary powers on Herr Neumann, the Memel German leader. The streets are crowded with uniformed Nazis. Swastikas are to be seen everywhere It is reported that Herr Neumann sent a note to the Lithuanian Government in the form of an ultimatum demanding independence for Memel. Official circles, however, deny that Herr Neumann sent such an ultimatum. It is denied in Berlin that Germany intended to reincorporate Memel in the Reich in the near future
