March 18, 11 a.m.) LONDON, March 17. A Bratislava message states that the propaganda chief, M. Maoh, stated that the first announcement concerning the text of the telegrams exchanged between Herr Hitler and the Slovak Prime Minister, M. Tiso, contained an unfortunate misunderstanding. While one version stated , that Slovakia had asked! for German protection, another spoke about a protectorate. There was no question of M. Tiso asking Herr Hitler to turn Slovakia into a German protectorate. He had merely asked t'he Fuehrer to protect the frontiers of the new States. Triumphal Entry A message from Brunn states that Herr Hitler made a triumphal entry and was enthusiastically cheered by Germans. Troops are pouring in to participate in the afternoon’s review. It is stated that Herr Hitler is closely guarded and his movements are kept as secret .as possible. A Prague message states that Herr Himmler, the head of the German secret police, declared: “We have 10,000 arrests to make.” The former Czech President, Dr. Hacha, in a broadcast speech at Prague, described the defunct republic as "only a short episode in our history.” He added that Herr Hitler had received him with lull honours. A fine of £417 has been decreed in Prague in all cases ol profiteering in foods and goods. The Czech crown has been stabilised at. 10 crowns to one reicbmark.
