MASS DEMONSTRATION
FARMING- INDUSTRY - TIMARU PROPOSAL APPEAL FOR EQUALITY (Per Press Association,) TIMARU, this day. A mass demonstration of South Canterbury farmers “to illustrate the serious plight and the financial position of the farming industry with a view to enlisting the sympathy of the Government and other sections of the community in the efforts of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union to gain the same treatment for the primary industries as for other industries,” .will be held in Timaru during April. A decision to this effect was made at a meeting of the South Canterbury provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union at Timaru yesterday when a committee consisting of the presidents of the various branches was empowered to approach the Agricultural and Pastoral Association and the Crown Tenants’ Association of the province and ascertain their attitude to the proposal and to make the necessary arrangements for a mass demonstration of all sections of the farming industry.
The Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin, will be invited to attend and the speakers will probably include the Dominion president of the Farmers’ Union, Mr. W. W. Mulholland.
