March 15, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, March 14. In reply to a question in the House of Commons, the Foreign Undersecretary, Mr. R. A. Butler, said that although it must be recognised on all sides that circumstances in the past had imposed upon the League of Nations tasks beyond its powers, the Government was fully aware of the value of the League’s organisation for the furtherance of international consultation and collaboration, and the Government would neglect no practical means of maintaining and expanding the usefulness of the League. “The Government does not propose at present to suggest any alteration in the constitution or the objects of the League,” added Mr. Butler.
