COASTAL TRADE The auxiliary scow Vesper cleared Gisborne last night for Auckland, having loaded a quantity of empty benzine drums for the northern port. The Rata completed the discharge of her shipment of Greymouth posts here yesterday and sailed at 12.20 a.m. today for Westport. The Pukeko reached Gisborne at 9.--10 a.m. to-day from Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier and Waikokopu. She .sails to-night for Wellington. The Kopara loaded cement at Portland yesterday and general cargo at Auckland to-day for Coast bays, Gisborne and Napier. The ship arrives here on Thursday. The Port Whangarei finishes her Auckland leading to-day and sails for Tokomaru Bay, Tolaga Bay and Gisborne, arriving here on Thursday. The Wainui, loading for Napier and Gisborne, left Bluff last night and leaves Dunedin to-day, Oamaru and Timaru to-morrow, Lyttelton on Thursday, thence Wellington, arriving at Gisborne about Monday next. HOMEWARD LOADINGS Gisborne Roadstead Port Denison (Port Line: agents, Williams and Kettle, Limited, arrives at Gisborne on Friday to lift .meat and butter for London, and sails finally from Port Chalmers on March 30 for England, via Cape Horn, arriving at London about May 10. P-lAKO AT WAIKOKOPU The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Piaiko arrived at Waikokopu yesterday from Glasgow in ballast to begin loading for London and Hamburg, via Cape Horn. MISHAP IN TORRES STRAIGHT The Union Steam Ship Company’s chartered tanker Thorsbov apparently received very little, if any, damage to her hull When she grounded on a reef ini Torres Strait, near Goode Island, while bound from Tandjong Oeban, Sumatra, to Wellington, where she arrived last Friday. The Thorshov fortunately ran on the reef at low water and was refloated five bon ns later on the rising tide. As she was making no water and had suffered no apparent damage, the vessel continued on her voyage to Wellington. Built in 1935, at Bremen, the Thorshov has a gross tonnage of 9955 and is under a two-year charter to the Union Steam Ship Company.
