The service championship was won at the national rifle meeting at Trentham on Saturday by T. Goodall, <Si Suburbs Rifle Club, with an aggregate score of 268 out. of the possible of 300. He becomes the holder of the Ross Carbine champion belt and'receives the gold medal of the National Rifle Association.

Second place in the championship was filled by A. G. Devore, Auckland City Club, with 200. The third highest score was obtained by J. R. Kcoghan. of Westport. with 260.

Keen interest was taken in the service shooting, which occupied the whole of the day. There were 317 competitors. Conditions were good throughout the day. There was a steady breeze from the right.

Four matches were fired in the service series. Three of these comprise application, rapid fire, and snapshooting practices at 300 and 500yds. Fifty marksmen with the highestaggregate score in these qualified for inclusion in the service 50 to fire 10 rounds application at 600yds for the service championship Goodall has been shooting at Trentham since 1909. He is probably better known to the general public as a musician, having been the champion cornet player of New Zealand several times between 1912 and 1928. Twenty-five teams competed in the champion service teams' match, which was fired concurrently with the service matches. First place was obtained by the Auckland City A team with a grand aggregate score of 1022. The No. 1 service match, which called for five rounds application and 10 rounds snapshooting each at 300yds, was won by L. H. Proffitt, of Napier, with '7O.

The No. 2 service match, 10 rounds rapid and 10 rounds snapshooting at 300yds. was won by Goodall with 92. Devore was the winner of the No. 3 service match with 72. This match required five rounds application ana 10 rounds snapshooting, each at 500yds. The service championship results are:—Ross Carbine Champion Belt. N.R.A. gold medal and £5.—T.
