MOTOR SERVICES
INCREASE IN PASSENGERS MORE VISITING GISBORNE "Although a large number of passengers left the district during the holidays, there were many more than usual coming into Gisborne," .said the proprietor of a motor service in Gisborne to-day. In past years it was noted that the traffic was mostly outward, but last season travellers started to move inward and the figures were greatly increased this year.
Instead of the traffic being confined to one or two days during the holidays, it was nicely spread over a period of days, which helped to avoid the usual holiday complications of a surplus of passengers and last-minute arrangements to meet the requirements. Until Monday the traffic figures were low, but since then a steady stream of passengers had been transported in and out of Gisborne.
Another feature of the traffic on the north road was that the majority of the bookings had been from Gisborne to a point north of Opotiki. As a resuit the situation had been greatly eased for the company serving the travelling public, as there had been not the usual large number of shortdistance passengers to cater for at the busy period. The company manager said that heavy advance bookings had been received for early in the new year.
