GISBORNE'S STATISTICS
66 MORE DEATHS IN 1938 MUCH ILLNESS IX WINTER The many severe illnesses during the winter caused an increase of 66 in the number of deaths recorded in Gisborne compared with last. year, according to the vital statistics. Deaths in June, July, August, and September were 22, 37, 25, and 24 respectively, whereas the number for December of this year was back to 13.
There were slight increases in all the other totals for the year, and a decrease was shown for the month compared with December, 1937.
The figures for December were as follows, the totals for the same month last year being shown in parentheses: Births, 46 (50); deaths, 13 (19); marriages, 30 (33); marriages by registrar, 5 (4).
The totals for the year are as fol, lows, the comparative figures for the previous 12 months being given in parentheses: —Births, 471 (454); deaths, 338 (172); marriages, 226 (208); marriages by registrar, 44 (44).
