HOSES PROHIBITED
WATER RESTRICTIONS RESERVOIR LEVEL DROPS FALL OF 6FT, IN A DAY “The use of all hoses is prohibited as from to-day, and without further notice the Gisborne Borough Council intends to prosecute any person making use of a hose,” said the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, to-day. Despite the fact that many Gisborne residents were out of town on holiday and fewer householders were drawing water from the main, the level in the settling tank at the headworks dropped 4ft. yesterday and a further 2ft. overnight, making a total fall in the level of 6ft;. for the day. Some rain had fallen during the past few days, but none of any consequence had been recorded at the headworks. Mr. Thomas could give no indication how many days’ supply there was available, but said that it depended on the response gained from the public concerning the curtailment of the lavish use of water how long the start of pumping from the Mangapoike Stream could be delayed. “Once again the position i.s becoming serious,” he concluded.
