SERMON ON 'DARK WORLD'
LIGHTS OUT IN CHURCH LONDON, Dec. 5. As the Rev. F. C. Baker, the vicar of St. Stephen’s Church, East London, entered the pulpit to preach to a crowded congregation on “The Dark World,” every light was put out. He emphasised that the service was not a stunt, but that he got the idea noticing the peculiar ethereal effect of the East Window with a street lump outside when the church was in darkness. The original East Window was presented to the church in 1845, and reproduced Reubens’ picture of the Descent from the Cross. It was smashed by a German bomb during an air raid in 1918.
