EXCLUSION OF JEWS
GERMAN RETAIL SHOPS THOUSANDS TO CLOSE (Reed. Dec. 29, 9 a.m.) BERLIN, Dec. 28. Five days hence, Jews will be excluded from the retail trade in Germany. It is likely that only 700 of the 3700 Jewish retail businesses in Berlin will be taken over by Aryans. The other premises will close. The working hours may be extended to 10 or more under a decree which will be effective on January 1. Although an eight-hour day is to be regarded as normal, the time lost by national holidays and Nazi parades may be made up. Also hours may be extended to permit of cleaning shops, machinery and serving late-comers or, if the non-completion of work would involve the employer in a disproportionate loss.
