A boy aged seven years was drowned in the Newcastle harbour yesterday and -a youth aged 19 was lost in the surf at the mouth of the Bellinger River. It is believed that the latter was taken by a shark. No lives were lost on the patrolled beaches, on which a total of 161 lives were saved in major rescues with reel, line and belt during the last four days. There were also hundreds of minor rescues.
