The Belfast correspondent of the Daily Mail declares that the arrests of leaders of the Irish Republican Army in Northern Ireland were the result of a plot against the life of Lord Craigavon and members of the Cabinet.

Zero hour was to have been January 1.

They Ministry for Home Affairs has issued a statement saying that the Irish Republican Army was prepared

tor attacks on prominent persons and also on the Government and other property during Christmas and New Year.

The Ministry, therefore, decided that there was no alternative but to arrest and intern the well-known leaders, 34 of whom so far have been arrested. The police guards on public buildings have been doubled and members of the Cabinet have 'been provided with a bodyguard. Those arrested arc held in the Belfast gaol and, after questioning, will be interned under the Civil Authorities' Special Powers Act.
