EMPIRE DEFENCE
THE DOMINIONS' PART
POSITION IN PACIFIC
LONDON, Dec. 15
Empire defence, especially the Dominions' part in it, is now being discussed more widely in London. For a (considerable time there has been a tendency in Britain to think m'ostly in terms of Europe only, meagre interest being taken in the Dominions and the Far East.
The puhlic is now alive, however, to the real meaning of the Pacific, particularly since (Mr. Neville Chamberlain's recent declaration in the House of Commons that the British Navy, in the not distant future, might be called upon (for service beyond home waters and the Mediterranean. In a leading article, the Evening News says: "As the world is to-day, Britain's frontier lies along Australia's seaboard, and at Simonstown, South Africa, and Singapore, while the Dominions' frontiers are here in London."
